About Michael Connolly


Michael Connolly is the Director of English Programmes at the British Council, based in London. In this role, he collaborates with UK and international partners to support over 50 governments worldwide in delivering high-quality and inclusive teaching, learning, and assessment of English, as well as digital and other core skills for young people. Additionally, the team supports individual teachers, teacher educators, and school leaders by offering professional development opportunities, resources, and access to professional networks through an online teacher community of over 6 million members globally.


Michael holds both a BA and an MA from the University of Leeds and has been involved in English language education since 1998. His experience includes working as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic manager, and technical advisor in countries such as Japan, Spain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, India, Czechia, and the UK.
